The capture of Vyborg in 1944, a strategic port city on the Baltic, allowed to finally lift the siege of Leningrad and begin the liberation of the entire Karelian Isthmus.

The Vyborg operation was part of the Vyborg-Petrozavodsk offensive, which is called one of the ten “Stalin's blows”, which were major offensive strategic operations of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War.

The assault lasted for a whole day, every house had to be fought for. The Vyborg fortress, the main symbol of the city, was taken by the Rifle Battalion thanks to the strategic genius of the commanders, encircling the island from two sides. Not a single shot was fired at the Red Army. The lightning attack turned into hand-to-hand fighting and ended with the capture of the fortress.

We remember. We are proud.
